Hi
Classmates!
Today I will write about a piece of art that I appreciate for the
expressiveness of the painting; this is "Ríos de Sangre" by Oswaldo
Guayasamín. The piece divides in three painting that show the suffering of the
politician persecuted by the military regimen of Chile, and it was painted in
1986 when the artist noticed about that.
It is
part of the “La Edad de la Ira” collection, painted by Guayasamín since 1960
onwards. It shows the violence in the world and pain that produce the events
of the time, like the wars, dictatorships, concentration camps, etc. that marked
the twentieth century.
The
first time that I see this piece of art was in 2000, when my mother was looking
for a painting to give to my grandmother. In that opportunity she elected the
work of Guayasamín “Madre y niño”, a beautiful work that show a mother hugging
to her child. When she told me about the painting I answer who was the painter,
that’s how I meet Guayasamín.
Later, in
2016 I visit the house and museum of Guayasamín in Quito, where is keeping his paints,
and where rest his bones under a pine tree, called “The Life Tree”.
